Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck.
The A-Lister couple are said to have no prenup in place. While most couples use a lawyer for divorce proceedings, Jennifer is said to have filed documents herself, listing the date as August 20, 2024.
The music megastar lists the date of hers and Ben’s separation as April 26, 2024. Although they tied the knot on July 16, 2022, the couple had a lavish and traditional wedding on August 20, 2022.
Reports show that the documents do not say whether there is a prenup in place for Bennifer, but sources allege that the couple did not sign one when they said “I do”. While there is no prenuptial agreement in place, it would mean that any earnings the former couple have made would be community property.
Since they married, Jennifer has appeared in Shotgun Wedding, The Mother, This Is Me… Now and Atlas. Ben, however, has also appeared in Air and Hypnotic, while also producing The Instigators. The documents state that Jennifer has given up spousal support and has also asked the divorce judge to deny Ben the same support.
However after a rocky few months the couple have officially decided to part ways. A source close to Jennifer Lopez has revealed that the star was tired of waiting for Ben Affleck to make an effort to save their marriage and is now ready to “move on”.
The insider told People: “She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage.”
The news does not come as a shock to come after the couple were rumoured to head this way for some time. Jennifer rekindled her love with Ben in July 2021 and married a year later in an intimate Las Vegas wedding before celebrating in Georgia with their family and friends.
The former couple first began dating in 2002 and officially split in January 2004. They went on with their lives where they both married other people. Jennifer shares twins, Emme and Max, with her ex-husband Marc Anthony and Ben shares three children, Samuel, Seraphina and Violet, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Speculation about the two heading for divorce lit up when Ben was caught leaving their Beverly Hills home. The two were not spotted for some time until it was time for Violet’s high school graduation. The two have always been big on family and putting them first.
In July, Jennifer did not only celebrate her 55th birthday alone at the Hamptons but also their wedding anniversary. Ben has been living in California, while she has been spending the summer with her kids in the Hamptons.
The two then sparked up the divorce rumours when they put their Beverly Hills mansion on the market. Ben quickly bought a $ 20.5 million pad between two well-off LA neighbourhoods, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. The property sits on nearly an acre of land and was originally built in 1941 by California architect Cliff May.
While Jennifer and Ben were recently out and about in LA, Ben, 51, attracted attention with his dramatic midlife crisis look, featuring a shaved mohawk, leather jacket, and aviator sunglasses. He also had his head shaved nearly bald on one side as he showed off his punk rock transformation.
